Prayers are need at this time for the people of Bangula, the town where Sue helps the widows and the prisoners. This little town, which is close to the Mission, has been devastated by a severe flood and has been declared a disaster. Many buildings and livestock are lost, having received 115 mm of rain in 1 ½ hours. The people have survived and are now combing the ruins for anything that might be salvaged. Infrastructure is damaged, and the highway south of Bangula remains cut off from the rest of Malawi. Communications are very difficult as well. Please keep Sue and the staff at the mission in your prayers that they may have the strength to help the people of Bangula.

Sue’s latest March 1 e-mail about the devastating flood in the nearest town of Bangula and her work with the mission is available at the back of the Sanctuary. Sue appreciates our concerns for the mission and our continued prayers. Please help yourselves to her recent e-mail.

Our program of family suppers has gathered 17 Applewood families with kids and teens so far. We are grateful for the families who have hosted a dinner at their home, often for people they didn’t know.

Hosts are supported in offering the dinner by our Visioning project. In a culture where families are scattered at different schools, jobs and demands, recognizing good friends at church is the start to strong community. Parents’ eagerness to make these new friends sends a strong message of the value of Christian life to their children. A new round of Soul Food Suppers is being organized, and invitations by e-mail and phone will go out for these families to choose their best dates. Families: by all means, please let Carolyn Smith know you’re interested in participating - we’d love to have you around a table!
