Hank Ankenmann Book Repair Program

Although Hank Ankenmann has moved, he is still available to do book repairs. He visits us at church from time to time. If you have some precious books that need repair, please give them to me or the Church Office with your repair instructions, name and phone number. I will see that these are available for Hank. Hank does not ask for payment; he only asks that you make a donation to the United Church’s Mission & Service Fund (M&S) in an envelope and indicate that it relates to the “Hank Ankenmann Book Repair Program”. If you pay by cheque, please make it payable to Applewood United Church.

.This program raised almost $1,000 for M&S in the two years ended Dec. 31, 2003.

Your contribution envelopes for the coming year are available for pickup from the table in the Narthex. Please be sure to use your remaining 2011 envelopes only in 2011

News from the General Council

The Basis of Union for the United Church is to have three documents formally recognized within the Doctrine Section. These documents are ones that have been in place, cherished and loved since they were created.
The first is the 1940 Statement of Faith, the second is A New Creed and the third is A Song of Faith. These expressions of faith are widely used across the church. Every congregation session (or equivalent) and presbytery are being asked to formally acknowledge the acceptance of these documents.

Sue Silva – Malawi Mission

Prayers are need at this time for the people of Bangula, the town where Sue helps the widows and the prisoners. This little town, which is close to the Mission, has been devastated by a severe flood and has been declared a disaster. Many buildings and livestock are lost, having received 115 mm of rain in 1 ½ hours. The people have survived and are now combing the ruins for anything that might be salvaged. Infrastructure is damaged, and the highway south of Bangula remains cut off from the rest of Malawi. Communications are very difficult as well. Please keep Sue and the staff at the mission in your prayers that they may have the strength to help the people of Bangula.

The ticket price for the luncheon will be $8, with a $5 price for children 10 & under. As it is also ‘Earth Day’, the colour scheme will be green & white with yellow accents.
