Funerals

Please accept the condolences of the Applewood congregation on the death of your loved one.
Our minister, Rev. Cynthia R. Stretton, is available to help you plan a funeral or memorial service at Applewood United Church. Support services are also provided by other individuals. To assist you in your plans, we have set out below the costs associated with holding a service at the Church:
| Use of Church Facility | $200.00 |
| Ordained Minister | $300.00 ($350.00 if there is a separate graveside service) |
| Music Director | $175.00 * |
| Superintendent | $100.00 |
| Traffic Controller | $50.00 |
| Audiovisual Technician | $50.00 |
| Reception Luncheon | $200.00 ** |
* All music choices and/or guest musicians must be coordinated with Christina Mulligan, our Music Director. She may be contacted at 647 444-7587.
** This is the suggested minimum donation for providing a reception luncheon following the service.
Our Bereavement Committee welcomes any donations above this amount, as they assist the committee in providing outreach to all bereaved families. An income tax receipt for the luncheon donation will be issued only to the name and address on the cheque. If you have chosen to have a reception at the Church after the service, a representative from the committee will contact you to discuss your needs.
Please consult the Church Office for the names of the individuals who will be assisting at the service, and forward separate cheques (or cash) for the amounts listed above to the Church Office. If you are working with a Funeral Home, they will be happy to issue the payments on your behalf. The donation for the Reception Luncheon should be made payable to the Applewood United Church Bereavement Committee.
Parking at the Church is very limited. Our Traffic Controller will be on site, whether or not assistance is also provided by the Funeral Home, to direct attendees to park in appropriate spots, either in our parking lot, on permitted side streets, or at the front (south) side of the Applewood Village Plaza. It is a short walk from the plaza to the Church. Note that parking is prohibited on Stanfield Road.
Note that funeral expenses are considered by Revenue Canada to be personal expenses and are not tax-deductible. However, because the Bereavement Committee does not charge for providing funeral receptions, any funds paid to the Church in that regard are voluntary, and so the amount is considered a donation, for which receipts are issued.
Peace in Christ,
Applewood United Church
